Make your own rice bowl, "Sorameshi," at Tanga Market, a market with over 100 years of history known as the "Kitchen of Kitakyushu." Take a bowl of warm white rice and stroll the arcade of about 100 shops, adding toppings such as fresh tuna, crispy tempura and karaage. You can also add the local specialty nukamiso-daki (fish slowly simmered in fermented rice bran), the Tanga canape (minced fish paste wrapped in bread and deep-fried) and aromatic smoked bacon. Wander the market's nostalgic Showa-era atmosphere and complete a photogenic bowl that is all your own.

Sorameshi is a rice bowl you complete by visiting shops around the market and adding the dishes you want, one by one, on top of warm white rice. Tanga Market, in the heart of Kokura, has over 100 years of history, with about 100 shops selling fresh seafood, vegetables, meat and traditional side dishes along its arcade.
Start at Ibushiya to receive your rice and vouchers
The experience begins at Ibushiya, a smoked food specialty shop. Here you receive white rice, a serving tray and vouchers to use at the market shops. The vouchers can be used at most shops in the market, and you can check the shops on the map or list provided. The recommended time for the experience is 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
Add any toppings you like, from tuna to nukamiso-daki
Add fresh tuna from the fishmonger, crispy tempura and juicy karaage, along with market specialties such as nukamiso-daki, Tanga canape and aromatic smoked bacon. Snap a photo of your finished Sorameshi and enjoy it at the designated eating area in the market.
※ Delicatessens, fish shops and butcher shops in the market have irregular holidays, so some shops may be closed on the day of your visit.
