for the Terracotta Army Museum

Set off from your hotel in an air-conditioned van or bus. An English-speaking guide well versed in Qin dynasty history accompanies you and shares stories about Qin Shi Huang and the Terracotta Army during the roughly 1-hour drive to the museum.

Explore Pits 1, 2 and 3 in turn

Admission is included, so you enter right away without waiting in the ticket line. In Pit 1, the largest, you can see more than 6,000 life-size warrior figures made over 2,000 years ago. Looking at the different faces, hairstyles, armor and weapons of each rank, from infantry to generals, you can sense the scale of the army built to protect Qin Shi Huang in the afterlife.

In Pit 2, you see various types of figures such as kneeling archers, generals, cavalry and chariots, as well as areas where excavation and restoration are still ongoing. Finally, you visit Pit 3, believed to be the army's command headquarters. Over about 2 hours and 30 minutes, the guide explains everything from the ranks of the soldiers to the story of local farmers discovering the army in 1974.

Have lunch at a local family home in a nearby village

After the museum visit, you travel about 15 minutes by car to a quiet village. At a family home with a traditional courtyard, you drink jasmine tea and enjoy a home-cooked lunch of Shaanxi dishes.

With the guide interpreting, you can chat with the family about daily life and food and see the countryside village. After lunch, you return to central Xi'an, about a 1-hour drive.
