This bus tour departs from Hakata Station in Fukuoka and takes you to the hell hot springs of Beppu and the hot spring town of Yufuin in one day. Start at Nyoirinji (Frog Temple), famous for its more than 5,000 frog statues, then see Beppu's Umi Jigoku (Sea Hell), a 98°C cobalt-blue hot spring. In Yufuin, freely stroll the fairy-tale Yufuin Floral Village, Lake Kinrin known for its morning mist, and Yunotsubo Kaido Street full of shops and snacks. This is a group tour of up to 21 people with an English- and Chinese-speaking guide.
Meet your guide at the meeting point near Hakata Station and travel about 70 minutes by bus. The first stop is Nyoirinji, famous for its charming frog statues. Spend about 40 minutes exploring the temple grounds, admiring more than 5,000 unique frog statues and taking photos.
Next is Beppu, a hot spring city famous for its geothermal attractions. Spend about 1 hour 30 minutes touring the hot springs called "hells" for their boiling water and intense colors. The highlight is Umi Jigoku (Sea Hell), a cobalt-blue spring reaching 98°C (admission about 450 yen, payable on site).
If you wish, you can buy jigoku-mushi, Beppu's specialty of vegetables, seafood and eggs steamed with hot spring vapor (at your own expense).
Past Beppu, head to the town of Yufuin and explore freely for about 2 hours. Start at Yufuin Floral Village, inspired by England's Cotswolds, and stroll lanes lined with shops and cafes. Many shops are themed around Studio Ghibli characters, making it popular with families and Ghibli fans.
Lake Kinrin, at the foot of Mt. Yufu, is fed by both warm hot spring water and cold spring water and is famous for being wrapped in mist in the cooler seasons. After strolling around the lake, explore Yunotsubo Kaido Street, full of unique shops and local snacks. The Snoopy-themed cafe "Snoopy Chaya" is also on this street.
At the end of the day, return to Fukuoka by bus, arriving at Hakata Station around 17:30–18:00.
