Meet your guide at Third Wave Coffee in Mahim and start the Dharavi walking tour. Led by an experienced local guide, explore the busy commercial district for about 2 hours and look respectfully at the self-reliant economy and daily life built by the people here.
Visit recycling units, workshops and the pottery quarter
See large recycling units sorting plastic and metal, leather workshops where artisans work by hand, and the long-established pottery kilns of Kumbharwada. Walking through narrow residential lanes, you can also feel the warm community atmosphere.
Ride a suburban train to Mahalakshmi station
From Mahim station, ride Mumbai's iconic suburban commuter train for about 20 minutes to Mahalakshmi station. Watch the scenery go by and experience the daily commute of Mumbai's residents.
Finish the tour at the Dhobi Ghat viewing deck
Get off the train and arrive at Dhobi Ghat, an open-air laundry founded over 140 years ago. From the viewing deck overlooking the stone wash pens, watch hundreds of washermen (dhobis) scrub, beat, dry and iron linen from hospitals, hotels and homes for about 25 minutes. The tour ends at the Dhobi Ghat Viewing Deck.
