from the Dhobi Ghat Viewing Deck
The tour starts at the Dhobi Ghat Viewing Deck in Mahalaxmi. For about 30 minutes you watch hundreds of washers hand-wash and dry clothes in open-air concrete wash pens, following a tradition passed down for generations.
Your guide explains Dhobi Ghat's unique system of sorting, washing and ironing, and there is time for photos.
Ride a local train to Dharavi
Take a Mumbai local train, the backbone of the city's transport network, for about 10 minutes to Dharavi. Markets, high-rises and everyday city scenes pass by the window.
Walk Dharavi's lanes with a local resident guide
In Dharavi you explore on foot for about 2 hours with a local resident guide. Passing through narrow lanes, busy workshops and lively street markets, you hear about the area's culture, economy and daily life.
