Start at Dazaifu Station
and walk the lively shrine approach

Meet your guide outside the main entrance of Dazaifu Station and walk the approach leading to Dazaifu Tenmangu. You will see the town's unique streetscape lined with traditional sweet shops, cafes, souvenir stores and long-established local shops.

Taste Dazaifu's famous umegae mochi

Along the way, try umegae mochi, a warm grilled rice cake filled with sweet red bean paste. One local food tasting is included, and your guide may introduce seasonal sweets, savory snacks and local shops depending on availability and your interests. Other food and drinks can be bought separately as you like.

Explore Dazaifu Tenmangu and quiet old streets

Cross the bridges over Shinji Pond into the shrine grounds and learn about Sugawara no Michizane, revered as the deity of learning, as well as the plum blossoms, the sacred ox statues and wishes for academic success. After the main hall area, leave the busiest route and stroll quiet streets with small alleys, traditional architecture and local shops. The tour ends near Dazaifu Tenmangu or Dazaifu Station.
