Highlights
At DITIQUE, a handmade wedding ring atelier in Kokura, Kitakyushu, you make your own ring with a host who studied gemology at the GIA (Gemological Institute of America). Choose silver, gold or platinum, decide on the width, shape, surface finish and inner engraving, then use traditional forging techniques to hammer and bend a metal bar into a finished ring. Only one group (up to 4 people) is hosted per day, so you can work at a relaxed pace over 5 hours. Take home your finished ring along with photos of the making process.

Meet a gem expert
at a handmade wedding ring atelier
DITIQUE, a wedding atelier in Kitakyushu near Fukuoka, still makes rings by hand. The host, who studied gemology at the GIA and founded the atelier, is an expert in traditional forging techniques and creates engagement and wedding rings year-round. You work at the same workbench with the same tools as the host.
Choose your material and design
Choose silver for a first try, or gold or platinum for a ring to keep for life. Then decide on the ring's width, shape, surface finish and the words to engrave inside.
Hammer and bend to finish your ring
Hammer and heat the metal, bend it into a circle, adjust the shape and try it on several times to fit your finger. You can do every step yourself or leave the hardest parts to the host. Photos taken while you work are given to you along with your finished ring.
