BESTThis museum is the diamond of my Taiwan trip. Very busy and crowded but happy to spend my time with historical treasures. The vouchers I bought sent me directly to the entry with no queue

The National Palace Museum, one of the world's four major museums, was established in Taipei in 1965 after Chiang Kai-shek moved most of the relics from China's Forbidden City to Taiwan in 1948. The relics were temporarily stored in Taichung and other locations.
It houses a collection of 600,000 artifacts, including 290,000 valuable relics from the Forbidden City Palace Museum, offering an incredible cultural experience. It gained popularity in Korea after being featured in the TV show 'Grandpas Over Flowers'.

Asia's Largest Museum,
Taipei National Palace Museum
The Taipei National Palace Museum boasts an unrivaled scale in Asia. As one of the world's four major museums, its grandeur is truly remarkable. With approximately 690,000 artifacts in its collection, and treasures that are regularly rotated, there's always something new to discover, making it a worthwhile destination at any time.
Its popularity soared after being featured on tvN's popular program 'Grandpas Over Flowers,' establishing it as a must-visit destination in Taipei. Given its vast size and the multitude of artifacts, planning your visit in advance to focus on specific areas will enhance your experience.
When is the best time to visit?

To fully appreciate the National Palace Museum without a guided tour, it's best to visit as soon as it opens. This is when it's least crowded. Since guided tours usually take place in the afternoon, visiting in the morning allows for a more relaxed experience.
Must-see artifacts

The National Palace Museum houses a vast array of artifacts, but here are a few must-see items:
1. Meat-shaped Stone:
A carving resembling Dongpo pork, it is considered one of Taiwan's top artifacts along with the Jadeite Cabbage.
2. Jadeite Cabbage:
A Taiwanese treasure made from inferior natural jade, with a green top and a white bottom, carved into the shape of a cabbage.
3. Ru窯蓮花式溫碗:
A celadon bowl made during the Northern Song Dynasty, famous for its unique shape.
Getting there

Despite being a world-class museum, the National Palace Museum is not easily accessible due to its mountainous surroundings. Here's how to get there! The most common method is to take the Taipei Metro Tamsui-Xinyi Line to Shilin Station, then take a bus. Most buses from here will terminate at the National Palace Museum, so you can take any of them.
We recommend buses 紅30, 小18 (from Shilin Station), and 棕20 (from Jiannan Road Station), which stop right in front of the exit on the B1 floor of the museum's main building, without needing to go to the main gate.
Consider a guided tour

Given the size and the sheer number of artifacts at the National Palace Museum, a guided tour is a great option. Enjoy a fun and informative museum tour in a small group with a professional English-speaking guide.
