Osaka Museum of Housing and Living
The Osaka Museum of Housing and Living is Japan's first museum focusing on housing, from living to town development. You can appreciate the streets of Osaka during the Edo period and the housing and lifestyles of modern Osaka through models and materials. You can experience the actual streets and touch detailed exhibits. You can discover the charm and fun of Osaka's streets and life.
In addition, special exhibitions are held five times a year, featuring various seasonal events. Audio guides are also available so that people who do not understand Japanese can enjoy it.
Osaka's shopping streets in real size?

The charm of the Osaka Museum of Housing and Living is that you can experience Osaka in the past with all five senses. On the 9th floor of the museum, the streetscape of Osaka during the Edo period has been restored to its original size. You can stroll around and appreciate Osaka's shopping streets and towns. You can also experience wearing a kimono.
It doesn't end with just touring the town. You can hear the sounds you would have heard if you had lived in Osaka in the past. You can hear the voices of goldfish vendors, the sound of rain, and the sounds of dogs and birds. Even though it's indoors, the appearance of day, evening, and dark night are well represented, so you can feel like you've traveled back in time.
Osaka at a Glance

On the 8th floor, Osaka's towns, houses, and lifestyles from the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa periods are on display. The exhibition focuses not only on buildings but also on the detailed reproduction of lifestyles and customs. So you can see the history of Osaka civilization at a glance. You can scan the QR code on each exhibit with your smartphone to see an explanation of the exhibit, so be sure to check it out.
