BESTIt was fun ~ I took pictures wearing a kimono, watched a matcha demonstration, and drank wheat tea. It was better because I was the only Korean.
Know, Wear, Drink Kyoto
Everything is possible at 'Tondaya'!
For those who want to experience Kyoto's traditional lifestyle culture all at once, we introduce three experience packages offered by 'Tondaya'! This package allows you to tour the Tondaya House, which is registered as a national tangible cultural property, while hearing stories about its unique history, art, and architecture, and experience a tea ceremony while wearing a 100% silk kimono.
Tondaya is located close to Seimei Shrine and Kitano Tenmangu, so I recommend visiting them together!
All about Kyoto's traditional houses
Nishijin Japanese Culture Museum 'Tondaya'
Tondaya, a nationally tangible cultural property, is a traditional house characterized by its narrow entrance and long interior. By taking a guided tour of the building’s interior and learning about its customs, lifestyle, and culture, you will be able to learn about the “real Kyoto.”
One thing to keep in mind is to bring socks to protect cultural assets! Don't forget.
100% silk kimono
Tondaya started as a kimono wholesale company run by the Tanaka family for generations. As a result, all the kimonos handled here are silk kimonos handcrafted by artisans in the Nishijin area, which is a clear difference from the polyester kimonos commonly worn in tourist areas!
Record today by wearing a luxurious silk kimono and taking pictures freely in the garden, tatami room, etc.
An authentic tea ceremony experience in a tatami room
During the tea ceremony, you can learn how to enjoy tea and Japanese sweets while listening to the tea master's explanation. If you choose the luxury plan, you can also enjoy a more special time in the small tea room built by the founder.
Enjoy a leisurely cup of tea while looking out at the green garden outside the window!
