Learn about the history and culture of Japanese knives and swords from a Japanese master, then make your very own Japanese knife. Choose the type and size of knife, sharpen the blade, and attach the handle with a traditional hammer. Engrave cherry blossom leaves or your name in Japanese on the handle for a one-of-a-kind souvenir. Bilingual English-speaking staff support you throughout, so no experience is needed, and you can join in either Asakusa, Tokyo or Osaka.

Put on a haori and
learn the history of Japanese knives
When you arrive, put on a light haori (a kimono-style jacket) provided by the staff to keep your clothes clean, and receive a badge with your name written in Japanese. Sit down with tea or juice and listen to a Japanese master explain the culture and history behind Japanese knives and swords.
Next, choose the type and size of the blade you want to sharpen. You can choose from up to 5 types of knives, and some types come with a small extra charge.
Focus on sharpening your blade

Sharpening the blade requires deep concentration and feels like a calming, meditative process. Several English-speaking assistants are always on hand to correct your technique and give personal advice, and you can enjoy friendly conversation with local staff as you learn.
Engrave your name and finish your knife

Engrave cherry blossom leaves or your name in Japanese on the handle, then attach it with a traditional hammer to complete your knife. You can also engrave a drawing or anything you like, and the staff can teach you some basic Japanese if you are interested.
Your finished knife is beautifully wrapped, and you wrap up the experience with Japanese snacks and tea. You also receive a custom key holder with a unique design as a gift.
