Choose a kimono at Rakuu-tei, a traditional teahouse inside Shinjuku Gyoen, get dressed with help from professional staff, and then stroll freely through the Japanese garden. The experience is run by Kouichi Store, a kimono shop with more than 170 years of history, and includes the kimono, obi belt, tabi socks, traditional sandals and a Japanese-style handbag, plus a haori jacket for men. Women also receive basic hair styling. Once dressed, explore the garden at your own pace until the 5:00 PM return time.

Choose and wear a kimono at
a traditional teahouse in Shinjuku Gyoen
The experience begins at Rakuu-tei, a historic teahouse inside Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. On arrival, staff will help you choose a kimono from a variety of seasonal designs, and the professional dressing team will dress you. The whole process, including reception, selection, dressing and hair styling for women, takes about 60–90 minutes.
From June 1 to September 30, a yukata (a light summer kimono) is provided instead of a regular kimono so you can enjoy the garden comfortably in the hot season.
Choose between a casual kimono and a premium silk kimono

There are two plans: a casual kimono experience with dressing, and a premium silk kimono rental with dressing. Basic hair styling is included for women, and additional styles are available as a paid option. The premium silk kimono plan may be affected by rainy weather.
Stroll through the Japanese garden in your kimono

Once dressed, explore the peaceful Japanese garden of Shinjuku Gyoen freely at your own pace. The kimono can only be worn inside Shinjuku Gyoen, and you cannot leave the park while wearing it. After your walk, return to Rakuu-tei to change out of the kimono.
Browse Japanese souvenirs at the shop

After the experience, you can browse Japanese souvenirs and gifts at the same shop. The final return time is 5:00 PM, so booking an earlier time slot is recommended to make the most of your experience.
※ Admission to Shinjuku Gyoen is not included and must be purchased separately.
※ On rainy days, traditional sandals cannot be used because of mud; a Japanese umbrella is provided free of charge instead.
