This guided coach tour from Sapporo covers Asahiyama Zoo and the highlights of the Biei and Furano area in one day. You'll spend 120 minutes at Asahiyama Zoo, where you can see penguins walking on the snow, polar bears diving into an icy pool and seals swimming over a glass tunnel. You'll then visit the Ken and Mary Tree, Shirahige Falls, the Shirogane Blue Pond and Ningle Terrace, a craft village in the forest. Zoo admission and an English-speaking guide are included, with departures from Odori Station and JR Sapporo Station.

Meet penguins and polar bears
at Asahiyama Zoo
Board the coach at Odori Station Exit 31 at 8:00 AM or at the JR Sapporo Station North Bus Parking at 8:10 AM, and enjoy a 2-hour drive through the Hokkaido countryside.
At Asahiyama Zoo, Japan's northernmost zoo, admission is included and you have 120 minutes to explore freely. Known for its immersive habitat exhibits, the zoo lets you watch penguins waddle across the snow just a few meters away, see polar bears from a greenhouse-style viewing area and watch seals swim over a 360-degree glass tunnel.
See the Ken and Mary Tree in the fields of Biei

Heading south along Biei's Patchwork Road, you'll see the Ken and Mary Tree standing in open fields. Made famous by a 1972 commercial, this poplar has become a symbol of Hokkaido's countryside. Your guide will stop the bus at the best angle so you can photograph the white snowfields and the tree through the window (about 10 minutes).
Walk around Shirahige Falls and the Shirogane Blue Pond

At Shirahige Falls in the Shirogane Onsen valley, water springs from cracks in the rock and falls in white streams, contrasting with the deep blue Biei River below. In freezing temperatures, icicles and frost surround the falls (about 20 minutes).
Next, walk the paths around the Shirogane Blue Pond for about 20 minutes. Minerals and light-reflecting aluminum particles give the water its turquoise glow, while white larch trunks rise from the water's edge. Capture the color as it shifts between pale blue and soft jade with the changing light.
Explore the forest craft village of Ningle Terrace

Your final stop is Ningle Terrace, a cluster of log-cabin workshops hidden in the forest near Furano, where you'll spend about 30 minutes. Wooden boardwalks connect small shops where local artisans sell glassware, lavender products and wood carvings. You'll arrive back at the JR Sapporo Station North Bus Parking around 5:30 PM and Odori Station Exit 31 around 5:50 PM.
※ If Ningle Terrace cannot be reached due to road closures or restrictions, the tour visits Takushinkan instead.
※ Schedule times may be adjusted depending on weather or traffic.
※ Weather, snowy scenery and animal viewing are not guaranteed.
