Leave Sapporo to see Hell Valley, a volcano
and Lake Toya in one day
The tour departs from the North Exit of Sapporo Station, and for the small-group hotel pickup option, pickups from designated hotels in Chuo Ward, Sapporo start at 7:30 a.m. With a driver-guide who speaks Chinese, English and Japanese, you will travel by vehicle to Noboribetsu Jigokudani, Showa-Shinzan, Lake Toya and the Silo Observatory before returning to Sapporo.
Walk through the sulfur mist of Noboribetsu Jigokudani

Spend about 50 minutes at the first stop, Noboribetsu Jigokudani. Known for its rust-colored rock walls and constantly rising sulfur mist, it lets you see volcanic terrain up close as you walk the mist-shrouded trails.
Choose the ropeway or the bear ranch at Showa-Shinzan

At Showa-Shinzan you will spend about 100 minutes and choose one of two experiences. Ride the Mt. Usu Ropeway for views over the volcanic lava dome and Lake Toya, or visit the bear ranch to see and feed Hokkaido brown bears up close. Ropeway and bear ranch admission are not included and are paid separately on site.
Stroll along Lake Toya and finish at the Silo Observatory

At Lake Toya, the northernmost ice-free lake in Japan, spend about 80 minutes strolling along the shore and taking photos. Finally, spend about 20 minutes at the Silo Observatory enjoying the panoramic view of the whole lake and surrounding mountains before returning to Sapporo.
