Enter an ancient imperial altar garden
west of Tiananmen Square
Zhongshan Park is a 23.8-hectare classical altar and temple garden west of Tiananmen Square. It was originally Shejitan, the Altar of Land and Grain, built in 1421 according to the "ancestral temple on the left, altar on the right" layout.
Ming and Qing emperors offered sacrifices here to the gods of land and agriculture, and it symbolized imperial power and the nation's agriculture. It became a public park called "Central Park" in 1913 and was renamed Zhongshan Park in 1928 in memory of Sun Yat-sen.
See the Five-Colored Soil Altar and ceremonial buildings

The park preserves many ancient buildings, including the Five-Colored Soil Altar, the sacrificial kitchen, the sacrificial storehouse and the hall where sacrificial animals were kept.
Visit the goldfish garden and a century-old teahouse

There are also scenic spots such as a garden where you can see precious goldfish. On the east side of the park stands Laijin Yuxuan, a teahouse with 100 years of history.
