at Mari Mari Cultural Village in the rainforest

Meet your guide at the pickup point in Kota Kinabalu and travel about 20 minutes by van to Mari Mari Cultural Village. After a welcome from your local guide, follow a path through the lush rainforest to the traditional houses of Sabah's indigenous tribes. You will spend about 2 hours 30 minutes in the village, listening to your guide's explanations and taking photos.

Experience daily life at each tribe's traditional house

At the Bajau House, play the traditional game congkak and watch the local snack kuih jala being made. At the Dusun House, experience traditional bamboo cooking over an open-air fire, and at the Rungus House, see traditional crafts and handmade bark cloth.

At the Murut House, step onto the lansaran, a trampoline-like traditional platform used at Murut festivals, and try henna drawing and the blowpipe.

Try fire-starting and blowpipe hunting yourself

Watch a demonstration of traditional fire-starting and try the blowpipe once used for hunting. Learn from your guide how the indigenous people have lived in the forest.

Finish with a traditional dance show and a local lunch

Watch a lively traditional dance performance and you can even join in. Finally, enjoy a local lunch in the village for about 30 minutes, then return by van to The Shore / Citadines Waterfront where you started.
