Highlights
This full-day tour on Iriomote Island, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site, lets you explore the mangrove forest by SUP or canoe and ride a water buffalo cart over to the small island of Yufu. You can choose between SUP and canoe when booking. Yufu Island is an entire subtropical botanical garden where you can see rare plants and animals that change with the seasons, and from its beach you can look out over the Yaeyama Islands, including Kohama Island. Most participants are beginners, and with a guide and safety equipment you can join with confidence even on your first try. Since the tour meets at Uehara Port, you can also join as a day trip from Ishigaki Island.

Enjoy a mangrove SUP or canoe tour
and Yufu Island sightseeing in one day
This is a full-day tour combining an activity and sightseeing on Iriomote Island. Around 9:00 you meet your guide at Uehara Port or your hotel in the Uehara area, move to the field, and enjoy one part of the program in the morning and one in the afternoon. The lunch break is about 2 hours and lunch is on your own. Feel free to ask your guide for nearby restaurant recommendations.
Explore the mangrove forest by SUP or canoe
Paddle through lush subtropical mangroves on a SUP (stand-up paddleboard) or canoe. You can choose when booking between SUP, an activity that has recently become popular worldwide, and canoeing, a classic Okinawa activity. Before setting off, your guide explains how to paddle in detail, and safety equipment such as life jackets and special shoes is provided.
The guide takes you to the best field for the day's wind direction, tide and crowd levels. Depending on conditions, the activity may take place in the sea instead of the mangroves.
Cross to Yufu Island by water buffalo cart
From Iriomote Island, ride a water buffalo cart for about 15 minutes to the small island of Yufu. Slowly crossing the sea on the cart is one of the joys of this tour. The Yufu Island ticket is included in the price.
Stroll freely around Yufu Island, a paradise of subtropical plants
The whole of Yufu Island is a subtropical botanical garden, where you can see rare plants and animals that change with the seasons. Explore the island at your own pace and head to the beach to enjoy views of the Yaeyama Islands, including Kohama Island.
