Explore the DMZ war sites of Quang Tri
in one day from Hue
Between 4:00 and 6:00 AM, your guide and an air-conditioned vehicle pick you up in central Hue and head to the Quang Tri front, one of the fiercest battlegrounds of the Vietnam War. Over about 12 hours, visit Quang Tri Citadel, the Bo Di School ruins, Dakrong Bridge, Ta Con Airbase (Khe Sanh), the Vinh Moc Tunnels, and Hien Luong Bridge and the Ben Hai River.
Entrance tickets to the main sites, lunch at a restaurant in Quang Tri (vegetarian options available), bottled water and cold towels are included. At the end of the tour, return to Hue or be dropped off in Dong Hoi (city center, train station or airport), depending on your option.
Face the scars of war at Quang Tri Citadel
and the Bo Di School ruins
Around 7:30 AM, stop at Quang Tri Citadel, which witnessed an 81-day battle in the summer of 1972. Your guide explains the area’s strategic role, the brutal fighting and the enormous sacrifices made by thousands of soldiers who defended it.
Then visit the Bo Di School ruins, a historic school deeply marked by the war, with its weathered walls and quiet remains.
Follow Route 9 to Dakrong Bridge
and Ta Con Airbase at Khe Sanh
Travel along Route 9, the vital east–west supply line across the Truong Son Mountains during the war, and pause at Dakrong Bridge, a symbol of the Ho Chi Minh Trail. Continue to Khe Sanh to explore Ta Con Airbase, the US outpost besieged for 170 days in 1968, with its original war relics, airstrip, bunkers and remaining defenses. Lunch is at a local restaurant.
Feel the history of division
at Vinh Moc Tunnels and Hien Luong Bridge
In the afternoon, head to the coast to explore the nearly 2 km, three-level Vinh Moc Tunnels, once home to more than 60 families and local soldiers. See the underground living quarters, meeting rooms, clinic and kitchen.
Finally, visit Hien Luong Bridge and the Ben Hai River on the 17th parallel, which divided North and South Vietnam for over 20 years. Explore the flag tower, exhibition hall and loudspeaker system and take photos before starting the journey back.
