Leave your accommodation in Kathmandu before dawn and watch the sun rise over the Himalayas from Nagarkot View Tower. Choose between an option that returns after the sunrise and a trekking option that, after sunrise, walks down through traditional villages, terraced fields and forest to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Changu Narayan Temple. The trekking option comes with an English-speaking guide, and since the route is mostly downhill, basic fitness is enough. All options include accommodation pickup and a packed breakfast.
Program
Leave before dawn and greet the sunrise at Nagarkot
Before sunrise, you are picked up from your accommodation in the Kathmandu Valley and driven about 1 hour 45 minutes in an air-conditioned vehicle to Nagarkot View Tower. Pickup is usually between 4:00 and 5:30 AM depending on the season, and the exact time is confirmed the day before the tour. On clear days, you can enjoy wide views of the Himalayas for about 30 minutes as the sky lights up.
The sunrise view option returns with the driver
With the sunrise view option, you watch the sunrise from Nagarkot View Tower and then return to your accommodation with an English-speaking driver. A hiking guide is not included, and a packed breakfast is provided. It takes about 4 hours in total.
Walk through villages and forest to Changu Narayan Temple
With the trekking option, after sunrise you walk for about 3 hours with an English-speaking guide along a mostly downhill route through traditional villages, terraced fields and forest. Cross a suspension bridge and finish the trek near the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Changu Narayan Temple; after visiting the temple, drive about 1 hour 10 minutes back to Kathmandu. It takes about 6 hours in total.
※ The sunrise and Himalayan views depend on the weather and may not be visible, especially on cloudy days or during the monsoon.
