Watch the sun rise
over the Himalayas from Nagarkot
Nagarkot is a hill village set against the Himalayas and known as a sunrise spot. From the viewpoint, watch the sky fill with vivid colors and golden light fall on the Himalayan peaks for 1 to 1.5 hours.
Depart from your hotel before dawn
The tour starts with hotel pickup between 4:00 and 5:30 AM depending on the season. The exact pickup time is confirmed the day before based on sunrise time. Travel in an air-conditioned vehicle through peaceful countryside to the Nagarkot viewpoint, about an hour away.
Walk through traditional villages and forest
to Changu Narayan Temple
With the hike option, after the sunrise you hike for 3 to 4 hours with an English-speaking guide through traditional villages, terraced fields and forest. Enjoy the views along the trail with a breakfast box. The hike ends near Changu Narayan Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site; visiting the temple is optional and the entrance fee is paid separately. You then return to your hotel in Kathmandu by vehicle in about an hour.
See only the sunrise or add Bhaktapur
The sunrise-only option has no guide; an English-speaking driver accompanies you, and you return to Kathmandu by vehicle after the sunrise. The Bhaktapur Durbar Square option lets you explore Bhaktapur's ancient royal palace with an English/Hindi-speaking guide and enjoy Himalayan views at Nagarkot; it does not include a hike.
