How far can I go with the JR Kitakyushu Rail Pass?

This pass allows you to travel from Fukuoka Hakata Station to Beppu, Oita, Kumamoto, Nagasaki, and Sasebo by JR trains (local trains, limited express trains, Kyushu Shinkansen, and Nishi-Kyushu Shinkansen). So if you are planning a trip to Beppu hot springs, exploring the small town of Nagasaki, or moving to Sasebo to visit Huis Ten Bosch theme park, this is a very convenient pass to purchase.

The JR North Kyushu Rail Pass allows unlimited rides on most JR lines for a set period of time. For the North Kyushu Rail Pass, you can choose between a 3-day or 5-day pass.

Do I have to use the 3-day/5-day pass consecutively?

The JR Kitakyushu Rail Pass comes in 3-day and 5-day passes, but they are only valid for consecutive days . In other words, if you use it for the first time on January 1st, the 3-day pass will expire on January 3rd, and the 5-day pass will expire on the 5th. You cannot skip days in between to avoid non-consecutive use.

The JR Kitakyushu Rail Pass allows you to use all Shinkansen (Mizuho, Sakura, Tsubame, Kamome) within the designated operating area, including reserved and non-reserved seats. It also allows you to use all limited express trains within the designated operating area, as well as local trains within the designated operating area.

However, the JR Kyushu Rail Pass cannot be used on the Shinkansen between Hakata and Kokura, which is part of the Sanyo Shinkansen operated by JR West!

How to reserve a reserved seat

You can use the train reserved seat advance reservation service through the JR Kyushu website JR KYUSHU RAIL PASS Online Booking.
* Reservations can be made before exchanging (issuing) the actual pass.
* Fare: D&S train (tourist train) → 1,500 yen Regular express → 1,000 yen (per seat)
* Children's fare is half the adult fare.
* For the special express "36 Plus 3 (36purasu 3)", the fare varies depending on the section.
* Advance seat reservations are available from 10:00 AM one month prior to the boarding date.
* The advance reservation fee for reserved seats will be paid directly by credit card when you reserve your seat on the JR Kyushu website.
