Where can I go with the JR Northern Kyushu Rail Pass?

This pass allows you to take JR trains (local trains, limited express trains, Kyushu Shinkansen, Nishi-Kyushu Shinkansen) from Hakata Station in Fukuoka to Beppu, Oita, Kumamoto, Nagasaki, and Sasebo. So, if you are planning a trip to Beppu Onsen, exploring Nagasaki, or traveling to Sasebo to visit the Huis Ten Bosch theme park, this pass is very convenient.

With the JR Northern Kyushu Rail Pass, you can ride unlimited on most JR-operated routes for a set period. For the Northern Kyushu Rail Pass, you can choose between a 3-day pass and a 5-day pass.

Do I have to use the 3-day/5-day pass consecutively?

The JR Northern Kyushu Rail Pass is available in 3-day and 5-day passes, and both are only valid consecutively. In other words, if you first use it on January 1st, the 3-day pass will expire on January 3rd, and the 5-day pass will expire on January 5th. You cannot skip dates in the middle non-consecutively.

With the JR Northern Kyushu Rail Pass, you can use both reserved and non-reserved seats on all Shinkansen (Mizuho, Sakura, Tsubame, Kamome) within the designated operating area. You can also use all reserved and non-reserved seats on all limited express trains within the designated operating area, and all local trains within the designated operating area.
However, the JR Kyushu Rail Pass cannot be used on the Sanyo Shinkansen between Hakata and Kokura, which is part of the Sanyo Shinkansen operated by JR West!
How to reserve a reserved seat

* Reservations can be made before exchanging (issuing) the actual pass.
* Usage fee: D&S train (sightseeing train) → 1,500 yen General limited express → 1,000 yen (per seat)
* Child usage fee is half the adult fee.
* For the limited express '36plus3(36ぷらす3)', the fee varies depending on the section.
* Reserved seats can be reserved in advance from 10:00 AM one month before the boarding date.
* The reserved seat advance reservation fee will be paid directly by credit card when you reserve a seat on the JR Kyushu website.
