A place built after the conquest of Italy
Château de Chambord was built shortly after François I returned from his conquests in Italy and is directly connected to his hopes of introducing a new Italian model. Leonardo da Vinci, who is known to have accompanied François I when he returned to France, is also known to have some involvement, although he passed away in Amboise in 1519 before the construction of Château de Chambord began.
Domenico da Cortona was from Tuscany and supervised the construction of the Château de Chambord and even created a wooden model of the design. So, it is a castle that boasts an unprecedented scale.
Beautiful, gorgeous interior
Château de Chambord is famous for its unique interior, which is a 44 square meter centralized structure with a main hall in the shape of a Greek cross. There's a lot to see here, including its massive scale, a skyline worthy of a fairy tale, and beyond its classic Italian décor, its most striking feature is its rare double helix staircase.
