This food tour takes you through Ueno, known as the birthplace of Tokyo, with a local guide to local restaurants and izakaya serving authentic Japanese food. The spots were hand-picked by the company's CEO, who was born and raised in Ueno, and they are not tourist restaurants but places locals have loved for generations. At each stop you sit down to enjoy sushi, gyoza, yakitori, ramen, hot pot dishes and more while hearing stories about Ueno's food culture dating back to the Edo period. With a maximum of 5 people per group, you can easily ask your guide questions and get local recommendations.

Meet your guide at JR Ueno Station
and visit local favorite eateries
Meet your guide inside JR Ueno Station and spend about 3 hours visiting four local restaurants and izakaya in the Ueno area. These are not trendy tourist spots but warm, authentic local places that have served Japanese food for generations, and you stay about 40 minutes at each.
Taste sushi, gyoza, yakitori and ramen

At each stop you sit down to enjoy Japanese favorites and side dishes such as freshly made sushi, gyoza, grilled yakitori skewers, ramen and hot pot dishes. Water or green tea is served, and with the additional drinks package you can also taste sake and plum wine.
Learn about Ueno's food history from your guide

About 400 years ago, long before Shibuya, Shinjuku and Harajuku existed, Ueno was the center of Edo. Your guide shares the history of the neighborhood and why Ueno became the heart of Tokyo's traditional food culture. Your guide is happy to answer questions and share local tips for the rest of your stay in Tokyo. The tour ends back at the meeting point at JR Ueno Station.
