Watch a 45-minute wadaiko (traditional Japanese drum) performance by young taiko players at Hulic Hall Kyoto in central Kyoto. As a non-verbal show told through the sound of the drums and movement, it can be enjoyed regardless of language. Feel the vibration of the drums and the wind created by the drumsticks up close, and take photos with the performers and drums after the show. It is an indoor show you can enjoy even on rainy days, ideal for families, couples, and solo travelers alike.

Watch a 45-minute wadaiko show
at Hulic Hall Kyoto
The show takes place on the 1st floor of Rissei Garden Hulic Kyoto, a restored 1920s elementary school building. Young taiko players who have also performed on the 2025 World Expo stage present a 45-minute wadaiko show that blends ancient tradition with modern technique. A short pre-show mini event begins 20 minutes before the show.
Learn the history and meaning behind the drums

Since ancient times, taiko has been used in sacred rituals to purify the land and on the battlefield as "jin-daiko" to command troops and encourage samurai. The show captures both the calm of a shrine and the intensity of the battlefield, and introduces the history and meaning behind the rhythms.
Join the performers on stage and take photos

During the show, one audience member can go on stage and play the drums with the performers. You are free to take videos and photos during the show, and afterward you can take commemorative photos with the performers and drums.
If you choose the drum lesson option, you learn to play the drums directly from the performers before the show.
※ Please arrive at the theater at least 15 minutes before the show. For the drum lesson option, please arrive at least 10 minutes before the workshop begins.
