Experience zazen meditation at Jushoin, a sub-temple of Myoshinji in Kyoto that is usually closed to the public. Learn the basic ideas of Zen and the zazen posture from the 16th head priest of Jushoin, then practice two zazen sessions in a quiet temple room. After meditation, enjoy selected Japanese tea, matcha and seasonal Kyoto sweets while chatting with the priest and your guide. A photographer captures the moments, and you'll receive the photo files after the experience.

Meet at the north gate of Myoshinji
and head to Jushoin
The experience begins at the north gate of Myoshinji Temple. Your guide will greet you and lead you through the temple grounds to Jushoin. Founded in 1599, Jushoin is a historic sub-temple of Myoshinji, one of Kyoto's largest Zen temple complexes, and is usually not open to the public. From the quiet rooms and veranda, away from Kyoto's busy sights, you can view the temple garden as it changes with the seasons.
Learn zazen from the 16th head priest

Nishida Eitetsu, the 16th head priest of Jushoin, introduces the basic concepts of Zen and the zazen posture in a simple, friendly way. You'll then practice two zazen meditation sessions in a quiet temple room. If you wish, you can also experience the traditional keisaku, a light tap on the shoulders.
Chairs are available for guests who prefer not to sit on the floor. No prior knowledge of Zen is needed.
Enjoy matcha and seasonal Kyoto sweets

After meditation, enjoy welcome Japanese tea, matcha selected by the temple and seasonal Kyoto sweets. There is also time to talk with the priest and your guide.
Keep the moments in photos

A photographer captures your time at the temple, and the photo data is sent to you after the experience.
