Highlights
Make your own "matcha incense" with a gentle matcha aroma, using high-quality Uji matcha that would otherwise be discarded because it cannot be sold as food. Shape it with wooden molds used for Japanese sweets to create 6 to 7 pieces of incense as pretty as confectionery. The experience takes place at Eshin-in (恵心院), a temple in the heart of Uji's sightseeing area that still keeps a quiet atmosphere.

Make matcha incense
at Eshin-in temple in Uji
An approximately 1-hour experience at Eshin-in (恵心院), a temple in Uji, Kyoto. Choose 10:30 or 13:30 and join as a group of 2 to 4. There is a Japanese plan and an English plan (with an interpreter).
Learn about Japanese incense and matcha incense
First, hear an introduction to Japanese incense (10 minutes) and matcha incense (10 minutes). Learn why upcycled Uji matcha is used and what makes the incense special.
Make 6 to 7 matcha incense pieces with wooden sweet molds
Then spend 40 minutes making matcha incense yourself. Shape it with wooden molds for Japanese sweets to complete 6 to 7 beautiful pieces that look like confectionery.
