Kyoto E-Bike Tour - Shimogamo Shrine & Backstreets

Fill up with spring water at Nashinoki Shrine
and follow Kyoto's water culture

Meet your guide at the SunnyCycle Shijo shop in central Kyoto. After check-in, your e-bike is adjusted to fit you and you get a briefing on riding comfortably and safely. Your guide is the SunnyCycle operator, a Kyoto local, who leads you along the same streets locals ride every day.

The first stop is Nashinoki Shrine, where locals come to draw spring water. Fill an original SunnyCycle bottle (yours to keep) with fresh spring water and drink it as you ride throughout the tour.

Ride along the Kamo River to Shimogamo Shrine

Cycle the riverside path of the Kamo River that crosses the city, and hear from your guide how residents use the riverbanks in daily life. Quieter routes are chosen whenever possible.

At Shimogamo Shrine, try mizu-mikuji (water fortune). In this tradition, words appear when you dip the paper in water, letting you experience the theme of water firsthand.

Take the backstreets to Higashiyama's sights

After Shimogamo, head to Higashiyama on backstreets and neighborhood roads rather than the main tourist roads. Visit Honen-in, Nanzenji and Heian Shrine, and see how ordinary streets connect everyday life with historic places. The e-bike makes even the gentle slopes around the temples easy.

The tour ends back at the SunnyCycle Shijo shop.
