Highlights
Transform into a maiko (apprentice geisha) and have your photos taken at the main store of Maiko Makeover Studio Shiki in the Kiyomizu area of Higashiyama, Kyoto. Professional staff take care of every step, from makeup and wig to kimono dressing and the photo shoot, so you can relax even if it is your first time. The studio uses the same makeup tools, techniques and wigs as real maiko and geisha, and you receive all of your photo data on the same day. Besides the solo indoor photo plan, there are couple and family plans as well as kids' maiko and samurai courses.

Transform into a maiko
with professional staff
When you arrive at the studio, you change into kimono innerwear and get ready in the order of makeup, wig and kimono dressing. Shiki uses only the same makeup tools, techniques and wigs as real maiko and geisha. You can skip the white makeup and the wig if you prefer, and false eyelashes are available on request from the makeup staff.
Once you are ready, the professional photo shoot begins, followed by 10 minutes of free time to take your own photos. You receive 3 folding photo mounts (195mm × 195mm) and all of your photo data on the same day. The indoor photo plan includes 3 shots in a tatami room.
Couples and families transform together
In the couple plan (1 group of 2 adults) and the family plan (1 group of 3), choose your favorite kimono and transform together, women as maiko and men as samurai. You can choose group or individual shots for the 3 photos and pick your background from a tatami room, tea room, Japanese garden or golden folding screen. Children can also join the family plan.
Kids' maiko and samurai courses
These courses are for children aged 5 to 12 (height 110–140cm). The kids' maiko course includes white makeup, a wig and kimono dressing (choose from about 50 kimono), and the kids' samurai course includes kimono dressing. Both courses include 1 shot in a tatami room and 2 shots in front of a golden folding screen, plus 3 folding photo mounts and all photo data. It is a great way to celebrate a family trip or special occasions such as Shichi-Go-San.
※ Duration: about 2 hours 30 minutes for the indoor photo, couple and kids' maiko plans, about 1 hour 30 minutes for the kids' samurai course and about 2 to 2.5 hours for the family plan (excluding time to change back).
※ On weekends, public holidays and in peak tourist season, there may be an additional wait of 30 minutes to 1 hour.
