Highlights

This self-guided trip takes you from your Cairns city hotel to the village of Kuranda, set in World Heritage-listed rainforest, riding both the Kuranda Scenic Railway and the Skyrail. Depending on your option, one leg is on the historic scenic train with mountain views, and the other glides just above the rainforest canopy on the 7.5 km Skyrail Rainforest Cableway. In Kuranda, you have about 2 hours 30 minutes to explore the markets, shops, and walking trails at your own pace. Pickup and drop-off at most Cairns city hotels are included for a hassle-free day.

Program

Get picked up at your hotel
and board the Kuranda Scenic Railway

After pickup from your Cairns city hotel, you transfer to the train station. Board the historic Kuranda Scenic Railway and take in the mountain scenery as you climb into the World Heritage-listed rainforest.

Enjoy free time in Kuranda Village

When you arrive in Kuranda, you have about 2 hours 30 minutes of free time. Browse the markets, unique shops, and walking trails, or take a river cruise (seasonal).

Explore the food stalls and cafés, or have a meal at Frog's Restaurant, known for its sauces and dressings. You can also discover the rainforest's wildlife, including the flightless cassowary.

Glide over the rainforest on the Skyrail

At 1:45 PM, ride the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway down from Kuranda. Over 7.5 km, you pass just above the rainforest canopy and look down on waterfalls and the Barron Gorge. When you arrive at Skyrail Smithfield Terminal, a bus picks you up at 3:15 PM and takes you back to your hotel.

※ The itinerary above is based on going up by scenic train and returning by Skyrail. The order and times vary by option.
※ The Kuranda river cruise operates seasonally.
※ Entry to Koala Gardens, the Butterfly Sanctuary, Birdworld, and Rainforestation is not included.
