This half-day adventure combines a jet boat ride and whitewater rafting on the Kawarau River near Queenstown. Also known as the River Anduin from The Lord of the Rings, the Kawarau River is where you speed by jet boat to the rafting launch point. You'll tackle Grade 2–3 rapids and finish your adventure on Dog Leg, a 400m-long rapid. Designed as an introduction to whitewater rafting, it's a great choice for first-timers.

Gear up at the rafting base
and set off by jet boat
Take the shuttle bus from central Queenstown to the rafting base, where you'll be fitted with a wetsuit, helmet, life jacket and other gear. Once you're kitted out, head back to central Queenstown to board the jet boat.
Speed along the Kawarau River by jet boat

The jet boat races about 22km along the Kawarau River at up to 95km/h, with thrilling 360-degree spins. After about 25 minutes on the river, you'll arrive at the rafting station.
Raft down the rapids of the Kawarau River

After a detailed safety briefing from your experienced rafting guide, you'll raft about 8km down the river for 1 hour. You'll pass through Grade 2–3 rapids, and occasionally Grade 2–4 rapids when the water level is high.
On the calm stretches between rapids, you can race other rafts or jump out of the raft for a swim. Take in the riverside scenery that has featured in several major films.
Finish your adventure on the Dog Leg rapid

Finish your rafting on Dog Leg, a 400m-long Grade 3–4 rapid. You can join the optional cliff jump section, or sit back in the raft and watch your friends take the leap. Back at the rafting base, warm up with a hot shower before returning to Queenstown.
※ The trip may be cancelled due to river, road or weather conditions, or insufficient numbers. In this case, you can receive a full refund or change to another date.
※ The grade of rapids may vary depending on the water level.
