This day tour from Sapporo Station takes you to the Shakotan Peninsula and Otaru, places that are hard to reach by train. Walk the ridge trail at Cape Kamui to look down on the vivid turquoise water known as Shakotan Blue, then continue to Shimamui Coast and Cape Ogon. Visit the Nikka Whisky Yoichi Distillery, founded in 1934, and enjoy 2 hours of free time for lunch and shopping around Otaru Canal and Kitaichi Glass street. Your driver-guide speaks English, Chinese and Japanese.

Depart Sapporo Station and explore
Otaru and the Shakotan coast in one day
The tour departs at 8:40 AM from the group bus stop at the North Exit of Sapporo Station. On this shared shuttle tour with a driver-guide, you pass through Otaru and Yoichi, visit the capes and coastline of the Shakotan Peninsula, and return to Sapporo Station around 6:30 PM. Depending on the final group size, a small vehicle (1–13 people) or a coach (14–45 people) is used.
Enjoy free time at Otaru Canal and Kitaichi Glass street

Your first stop is Otaru Canal, a 1.1 km canal completed in 1923. Spend 20 minutes photographing the restored red-brick warehouses and gas lamps lining the water. Then enjoy 2 hours of free time on the Kitaichi Glass shopping street.
Browse hand-blown glassware, visit the Otaru Music Box Museum, and have lunch with options such as seafood rice bowls, sushi, ramen, tonkatsu and Japanese curry. Lunch is not included, and most restaurants open at 11:00 AM.
Visit the Nikka Whisky Yoichi Distillery

Arriving around noon, the Yoichi Distillery was founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, who learned whisky making in Scotland, and is known as the birthplace of Japanese whisky. Famous for its smoky, full-bodied whisky made by direct coal-fired distillation, you spend about 45 minutes exploring the preserved stone buildings, exhibits and shop. Non-drinkers can also enjoy the architecture and history.
See Shakotan Blue at Cape Kamui and Shimamui Coast

Cape Kamui is surrounded by the sea on three sides, with the vivid turquoise water known as Shakotan Blue below. Walk the ridge trail to the tip (about 20 minutes one way) for panoramic views of the cliffs and open sea. You stay here for about 1 hour.
Next, at Shimamui Coast, one of Japan's 100 best beaches, pass through an unlit tunnel about 30 m long to look down on a hidden cove surrounded by cliffs. Finally, spend about 40 minutes at Cape Ogon admiring the rock formations and rugged coastline before returning to Sapporo.
