Walk through the highlights of the Forbidden City
with an English-speaking guide
A guide who has worked in Beijing tourism for more than 15 years will show you the main sights of the Forbidden City. As you walk, you will hear the history of a palace where even the tiles and bricks were chosen to show the emperor's power. You will also admire the interior decorations of the concubines' quarters.
Group tours are led by a shared English-speaking guide, and the guided Forbidden City tour takes about 2 hours 30 minutes. The places visited and duration vary by option.
Cross Tiananmen Square and walk to the Forbidden City
Options that include Tiananmen Square tour the square with your guide for about 30 minutes, then walk about 20 minutes to the Forbidden City. Tiananmen Square is free to visit but requires a real-name reservation, which is made for you with these options.
Add the Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace or museums
Besides the Forbidden City-only group tour (about 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours), there is a tour adding the Treasure Gallery (about 4 hours) and a tour of four museums inside the Forbidden City, including the Treasure Gallery, Clock Gallery, Ceramics Gallery and Imperial Throne exhibition, for up to 10 people (about 6 hours).
You can also choose tours adding Jingshan Park (about 3 hours 30 minutes to 4 hours), the Temple of Heaven and Tiananmen Square (about 6 hours 30 minutes), the Temple of Heaven with a Peking duck meal (about 6 hours 30 minutes), the Temple of Heaven and Summer Palace (about 6 hours 30 minutes to 7 hours), or a tour that goes as far as the Mutianyu Great Wall.
You can also book entry only, without a guide
There are also self-guided options for a Tiananmen Square reservation only or Forbidden City entry only. For the Forbidden City entry option, your passport is your ticket, so there is no QR code or paper ticket, and it is based on booking 7 days before your visit. For the Tiananmen Square option, you enter with your booking confirmation (screenshot).
