Your ticket is included, so you skip the ticket line, then walk with your guide from the majestic Meridian Gate past grand halls, golden roofs and vast courtyards to the quiet inner gardens.

For about 3.5 hours, your guide explains in English the symbolism and history of each space as well as the traditions, power and culture of the imperial court. There are no shopping stops, so you can focus on the sights.

Discover Beijing’s Central Axis
at Tiananmen Square

Tiananmen Square lies where Beijing’s Central Axis meets Chang’an Avenue. Construction of Tiananmen Gate began in 1417 under the Ming Yongle Emperor and was completed in 1420, when it was called Chengtianmen. The “Tiananmen & Forbidden City Private Tour” covers both the square and the palace, while the “Tiananmen Square Reservation Only” option provides a square visit reservation without a guide or tour.

Choose a group or private tour

The small-group walking tour meets at Exit C of Jinyu Hutong Station on Metro Line 8 and includes the Forbidden City ticket, but not Tiananmen Square. On the private tour, a driver picks you up from your hotel within Beijing’s 4th Ring Road, and only your group explores on foot with the guide.
