Highlights

This approx. 3-hour tour takes you around Beijing's Forbidden City with an English-, Spanish- or Russian-speaking guide. Admission is included, so you'll visit the key areas in order: the main Gate of Supreme Harmony, the Hall of Supreme Harmony where emperors were enthroned, the Hall of Preserving Harmony, and the Gate and Palace of Heavenly Purity. Admire the imperial gold and jade treasures in the Treasure Gallery, and finish the tour in the Imperial Garden with its pavilions and rockeries. Your guide shares the history and architecture of the Ming and Qing courts along the way.

Program

Enter through the Gate of Supreme Harmony
and see the Hall of Supreme Harmony

Start the tour by entering through the Gate of Supreme Harmony, the main gate of the Forbidden City. This grand double-eaved building was a ceremonial gate where Ming and Qing emperors gathered officials and heard opinions on state affairs.

Next, visit the Hall of Supreme Harmony, also known as the Golden Hall. Admire its ornate three-tiered white marble terrace. This is where enthronements, imperial weddings and major state events took place.

Pass the Hall of Preserving Harmony and enter the inner court through the Gate of Heavenly Purity

Move on to the central Hall of Preserving Harmony to see its distinctive architecture and learn how the emperor rested and prepared here before major ceremonies. Then pass through the Gate of Heavenly Purity, which divides the outer and inner courts. Qing emperors often discussed state affairs here, and beyond the gate the solemn court gives way to the quiet atmosphere of the inner palace.

Explore the Palace of Heavenly Purity and the Treasure Gallery

At the heart of the inner court, the Palace of Heavenly Purity was the residence of Ming and Qing emperors and the center of state affairs. With your guide, you can also see the 'Zhengda Guangming' (正大光明) plaque inside.

Then visit the Treasure Gallery to admire exquisite imperial gold and jade treasures and get a glimpse of the elegance of the old court and traditional craftsmanship.

Stroll through the Imperial Garden to end the tour

Finally, stroll through the Imperial Garden with its pavilions, rockeries and trees to finish the tour. The tour ends near Jingshan West Street (景山西街) north of the Forbidden City.

※ The visiting order may change depending on local conditions.
