Held at tables and chairs in an air-conditioned space, it is comfortable for all ages, with a maximum of 7 participants.

Discover the world of tea ceremony
at the 150-year-old Juraku machiya
Step into Juraku, a beautifully preserved 150-year-old machiya in central Kyoto, where a tea instructor demonstrates a traditional tea ceremony. As you watch, you learn about the history, etiquette and philosophy behind this cherished tradition, and the instructor gently guides first-timers through each step.
Taste seasonal sweets
and whisk your own matcha

First taste seasonal plant-based Japanese sweets, then prepare matcha yourself with authentic tea utensils. Using premium matcha favored by experienced practitioners, you learn how to whisk it to a froth and enjoy it under your instructor's guidance.
Sit comfortably at tables and chairs
for guests of all ages

Juraku is furnished with tables and chairs, so guests who find it hard to sit on the floor for long and families with children can join comfortably. The entire space is air-conditioned, making the experience pleasant in any season.
Hear the story of Nishijin
in a philosopher's birthplace

Juraku is the birthplace of Taichiro Kobayashi (1901–1963), a philosopher and art historian born into a Nishijin textile family. He studied in the Kyoto School under Kitaro Nishida and later in Paris, and became known as "the Burckhardt of the East" for research spanning Japanese, Chinese and Western art history. Tour the machiya with your guide to learn about traditional architecture and Nishijin, a quiet historic district away from the crowds, and take a commemorative photo.
