This 100-minute cooking class at a studio near Sanjo Keihan Station in Kyoto lets you make popular Japanese dishes yourself: ramen, gyoza and onigiri. The focus is on making rich soy sauce and miso ramen broth with ingredients that are easy to find at home. An English-speaking instructor guides you step by step through making gyoza filling, folding gyoza neatly and shaping onigiri. Classes run in small groups of up to 8 people, and after tasting what you've made, you take home ramen and gyoza recipes.

Make soy sauce and miso
ramen broth yourself
This class focuses on ramen broth. Noodles are usually available near where you live, but broth is not, so you learn to make authentic Japanese soy sauce (shoyu) and miso ramen broth with ingredients and seasonings that are easy to find at home. Toppings are simple ingredients that bring out the broth: boiled egg, bean sprouts, green onion and corn for miso ramen, and chicken, bamboo shoots and greens for shoyu ramen.
Make gyoza filling and fold them neatly
Balance meat, vegetables and seasoning to make gyoza filling, and learn how to fold gyoza so they hold their shape and seal well. You also learn the basics about gyoza.
Shape onigiri and taste your dishes
Shape onigiri, Japanese rice balls, neatly with a variety of fillings. They make a great simple snack or lunch. Taste the ramen, gyoza and onigiri you've made, and take home ramen and gyoza recipes so you can make them again.
※ Ramen noodles are not made in this class.
※ The door opens 30 minutes before class, and you can enjoy free coffee or drinks before it starts.
