This small-group tour from Paris visits the Loire Valley's iconic castles, Château de Chambord and Château de Chenonceau, both part of a UNESCO World Heritage site, in one day. Up to 8 travelers ride in an air-conditioned minibus with an English-speaking guide, and entrance tickets and audio guides for both castles are included. Hotel pickup and drop-off in Paris are also included for a hassle-free day.
After pickup from your accommodation in Paris, drive about 2 hours through the French countryside in an air-conditioned minibus to the UNESCO-listed Loire Valley. This small-group tour has a maximum of 8 people, and along the way your English-speaking guide introduces the royal history, wine traditions and cultural heritage of the Loire Valley.
Your first stop is Château de Chambord, the largest castle in the Loire Valley. Spend about 1.5 hours admiring this 440-room building from the reign of King Francis I, the double-helix staircase inspired by Leonardo da Vinci, and the royal hunting grounds.
Next, enjoy a lunch break of about 1.5 hours at a local restaurant. The lunch option includes a traditional 3-course French lunch featuring regional cuisine.
In the afternoon, spend about 1.5 hours at Château de Chenonceau, which spans the River Cher. Known as the "Ladies' Castle," it was shaped by influential women such as Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de' Medici. With an audio guide, explore its Renaissance interiors, royal rooms, tapestries and artworks, and learn about its history, including its role as a hospital during World War I.
Enjoy a guided wine tasting of about 1 hour at a local winery or wine estate (or Château d'Amboise, depending on circumstances). Sample Loire wines from crisp whites to elegant reds and learn about terroir, grape varieties and traditional winemaking. Time permitting, you may pass by Château d'Amboise and hear more about the region's royal heritage. After the tour, drive about 2.5 hours back to Paris in the evening.
