Chef Yoshino Maruyama's
Maruyama
Maruyama is a very famous restaurant that has been awarded Michelin 2 stars for the past 6 years. Both the Gion and Kenninji branches are located in the charming streets of Gion, Kyoto, so you can enjoy an even more mysterious atmosphere.
The Gion branch is a 2-minute walk from Gion Shijo Station. If you walk along the narrow alley, you will see red lanterns. The Kenninji branch is located to the south of Kenninji, so you can feel a different atmosphere from the Gion branch.
Maruyama offers kaiseki cuisine. They cook with fresh ingredients carefully selected according to the season, and the most popular menu is the special matcha course based on Kyoto matcha. We also recommend the chef's recommended course that you can trust and taste!
Introducing Chef Yoshino Maruyama
The owner, Yoshio Maruyama, is a chef well-versed in kaiseki, having worked at famous restaurants such as Kodaiji Doi and Kikunoi Kiyamachi (now Roan Kikunoi), and was also the head chef at Kodaiji Wakuden. Maruyama, which he opened in 1988, opened a sister restaurant of the same name in Kenninji ten years later.
Traditional Japanese style space
Maruyama is a restaurant with a Japanese-style interior design, with the concept of enjoying delicious food in a traditional Japanese space. The Gion Maruyama branch has six bar seats and one traditional Japanese private room on the first floor, while the second floor has spacious rooms decorated with Wajima-nuri. The Kenninji branch has private room-style seating, allowing you to enjoy your meal in a more private setting.
About food
All of Maruyama's kaiseki uses only seasonal ingredients. In particular, all of the vegetables used are important ingredients of Kyoto cuisine and are deeply related to the season. That's why Maruyama's food is not stimulating, but the sincerity put into each dish, as well as the aesthetic, visual effects, and simplicity, make it unforgettable once you taste it.
