Departing from Uyuni, Bolivia, this 3-day, 2-night tour takes you by 4WD across the Uyuni Salt Flats and the lagoons and deserts of the Andean highlands, ending in San Pedro de Atacama, Chile, on the last day. Visit the Train Cemetery, the Flag Square and the salt hotel, take perspective and mirror-reflection photos on the endless salt flats, and watch the sunset. Along the way you'll see Andean lagoons with flamingos, the Red Lagoon, the Stone Tree in the Siloli Desert, the Sol de Mañana geysers and the Green Lagoon. It's a small-group tour with up to 6 people per vehicle, including 2 nights of accommodation and the meals during the itinerary.
After pickup from your accommodation or the bus terminal in Uyuni, the tour starts at 10:30 AM. Up to 6 people travel together in a 4WD vehicle, accompanied by a Spanish/English-speaking guide-driver or a Spanish-speaking driver, depending on the option booked.
The first night is at the Salt Hostel and the second night at the Laguna Colorada Refuge. On the last day you cross the Chilean border and arrive in San Pedro de Atacama.
The tour begins at the Train Cemetery, where abandoned carriages of the Bolivian railway company remain. Then stop in Colchani village to learn about salt production and browse local handicraft shops.
On the salt flats, visit the Flag Square, the Dakar monument and the salt hotel, then have lunch and take panoramic, perspective and mirror-reflection photos. In the afternoon, explore Incahuasi Island with its coral fossils and giant cacti and enjoy views of Tunupa Volcano. After watching the sunset over the salt flats, head to the Salt Hostel.
After breakfast, stop in the small village of San Juan to buy snacks and use the restroom. View the active Ollagüe Volcano, a sacred site for indigenous communities, then continue to the Cañapa, Hedionda, Chiarkota and Honda lagoons, where flamingos, Andean ducks and gulls can be seen. Lunch is served near Hedionda Lagoon.
After lunch, see the famous Stone Tree in the Siloli Desert and enter the Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve. End the day at the Red Lagoon (Laguna Colorada), home to flocks of flamingos, and head to your accommodation in Huayllajara village.
Watch the sunrise at the Sol de Mañana geysers early in the morning and relax at the Polques hot springs. Then pass through the surreal landscapes of the Dalí Desert and visit the Green Lagoon next to Licancabur Volcano.
The tour ends at the Chilean border (Hito Cajón) around 9:30 AM. From the border, a vehicle takes you to San Pedro de Atacama, arriving around 12:30 PM.
※ For safety, the route may change depending on the weather.
※ If the Hito Cajón border is closed due to weather, the crossing is made via Ollagüe, which takes longer.
