This tour picks you up at your hotel in La Paz, takes you to Uyuni by overnight bus, and spends 4 nights and 5 days exploring the Uyuni Salt Flats and the high plateau of southwestern Bolivia. Pass the Train Cemetery and Isla Incahuasi, then watch the sunset with a toast of Bolivian wine in the middle of the salt flats. Next, travel by 4WD to high-plateau lagoons home to flamingos, the Sol de Mañana geysers, Polques Hot Springs and the Green Lagoon below Licancabur Volcano. Round-trip bus tickets, 2 nights of lodging (private rooms) and meals are included, so there is no need to arrange anything separately.
You will be picked up from your hotel in La Paz 1 hour before the bus departs and board the overnight bus to Uyuni. The bus has reclining seats, an onboard restroom and English-language assistance. After about 9 hours on the road, you arrive in Uyuni, have breakfast at the office and start the salt flats tour.
The first stop is the Train Cemetery, where old trains remain. Near Colchani, see how edible salt is processed by hand, then pass the salt mounds into the heart of the salt flats. After exploring Isla Incahuasi with its volcanic rock and giant cacti, watch the sunset at the edge of the salt flats with a toast of Bolivian wine. That night, you stay in a private room at Salt Hostel, a basic lodging in Uyuni.
After breakfast, head southwest with your guide past the Cañapa, Hedionda, Chiarkota, Honda and Ramaditas lagoons. At these lagoons surrounded by snow-capped volcanoes, you can see flamingos, Andean geese, gulls and other birds. In the evening, move toward Laguna Colorada and stay at a basic desert lodge (private room with bathroom) with a local dinner. Warm blankets are provided in the rooms.
Early in the morning, catch the first sunlight at the geyser field known as 'Morning Sun' (Sol de Mañana). Pass the highest point of the road at about 5,000 m, visit Laguna Colorada and the Stone Tree (Árbol de Piedra), and enjoy a soak at Polques Hot Springs. Then cross the Dalí Desert to the Green Lagoon at the foot of Licancabur Volcano.
On the way back you can see Andean plants and animals, arriving in Uyuni at around 5:00 PM. After a short break, take the bus to La Paz. When you arrive in La Paz at around 6:00 AM the next day, the driver will take you to your hotel.
