From La Paz: 2-Day Uyuni Salt Flats Tour - Overnight Bus & Sunset

Travel from La Paz to Uyuni
on an overnight bus

On day one, check in at the bus office at La Paz Bus Terminal around 9:00 PM and depart for Uyuni on the overnight bus at 9:30 PM. The bus has spacious seats that recline up to 165°, heating, travel blankets, an onboard toilet and seat belts. Before departure, you need to pay the bus terminal fee (2.50 bolivianos per person) in cash.

On day two, arrive in Uyuni around 7:30 AM, where the local team will meet you at the bus office. Relax and enjoy free time at a nearby café, then return to the office to check in, get a short briefing from your driver and guide, and start the tour at 10:30 AM.

Explore the Train Cemetery and Colchani village

First, learn about Uyuni's railway history at the Train Cemetery, home to a collection of old locomotives. Then, in Colchani village, see traditional salt processing methods and browse crafts made of salt and alpaca and llama wool.

Discover the Uyuni Salt Flats and Incahuasi Island

Cross the white salt plain by 4x4 and visit the Saltwater Eyes (Ojos del Salar), Playa Blanca, the Salt Hotel Museum, the Flags of the World and the Dakar Monument. Lunch is served during the salt flat experience.

On Incahuasi Island, walk along trails between giant cacti and ancient coral formations and enjoy panoramic views of the salt flat. Take fun perspective and optical illusion photos against the endless horizon.

Watch the sunset over the salt flat with wine

At dusk, enjoy wine and light snacks as you watch the colors of the salt flat change. After sunset, return to Uyuni, where the tour ends at the Uyuni office around 7:30 PM.
