Starting from Uyuni, Bolivia, this 3-day, 2-night 4x4 trip crosses the Uyuni Salt Flats and the Altiplano plateau. Along the way you'll see Incahuasi Island with its giant cacti, a sunset over the salt flat, high-altitude lagoons home to flamingos, and the red-hued Laguna Colorada. On the final day you'll stop at the Sol de Mañana geysers and Polques Hot Springs, then cross the border and finish in San Pedro de Atacama, Chile. Two nights in traditional Altiplano lodgings and six meals are included.

On the first day, meet your guide and group at the Uyuni office around 10:30 AM and board a 4x4 vehicle. You'll pass the Train Cemetery and Colchani, a village known for salt processing, before entering the salt flat. The vehicle is shared with other travelers, and an experienced local driver and guide accompany you for all three days.

Visit Playa Blanca and the former salt museum, the Dakar Monument and the flags of many countries, and have lunch on the salt flat. After seeing the "Eyes of the Salt Flat" where groundwater bubbles up, you'll have time to take perspective photos with your guide. In the afternoon, walk among the giant cacti of Incahuasi Island (entrance fee extra) and watch the sunset with a glass of wine and snacks. In the evening, head to your lodging in the Atulcha or San Juan area for dinner and the night.

On day two, cross the Chiguana Desert and stop at a viewpoint of Ollagüe, an active volcano on the Bolivia-Chile border. At the Cañapa, Hedionda and Chiarkota lagoons you may see Andean flamingos and other wildlife, and in the Siloli Desert you'll see the Stone Tree (Árbol de Piedra), shaped by wind and erosion. After exploring Laguna Colorada, the red lake of Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve, you'll stay at a lodging in the Huayllajara or Polques area.

On day three, leave early for Sol de Mañana, a geothermal field at about 5,000 m, to see steam vents and bubbling mud pools. After a soak in the warm waters of Polques Hot Springs, cross the Dalí Desert and visit Laguna Verde and Laguna Blanca near Licancabur Volcano. After crossing the Bolivia-Chile border, shared transport takes you to San Pedro de Atacama, where the tour ends around 1:00 PM Chile time.
