This small-group tour departs from Uyuni and spends a full day exploring the Uyuni Salt Flat, known as the largest salt flat in the world. Travel by 4WD vehicle to the Train Cemetery, Colchani village, a former salt hotel and Incahuasi Island, home to giant cacti. At dusk, watch the sunset in the middle of the salt flat with red wine and snacks, and end the day by gazing at the stars. With a maximum of 6 people, it's easy to get your guide's explanations and help with photos.
The tour departs at 10:30 AM from the operator's office in Uyuni. You'll travel by Toyota Land Cruiser or Nissan Patrol 4WD vehicle, accompanied all day by a driver-guide who speaks Spanish or English. Your guide leads you safely across the high plateau, shares insights into the local culture and helps you take great photos.
First, spend about 40 minutes at the Train Cemetery, where old locomotives rest. Then browse salt handicrafts and local products for about 30 minutes in Colchani, the gateway to the salt flat.
On the salt flat, see the salt mining area and the former Playa Blanca salt hotel, now a museum, and enjoy a traditional local lunch. Next, visit Incahuasi Island, known for its giant cacti and open views, for about 50 minutes. The signposted island trail is optional and costs about USD 5, paid separately.
In the afternoon, enjoy red wine and snacks while watching the sunset in the middle of the salt flat. If weather conditions allow, you can see the mirror effect as the ground reflects the sky. After sunset, gaze at the stars before returning to Uyuni at around 8:00 PM.
※ During the rainy season (January to March), access to Incahuasi Island may be restricted due to standing water. You'll be notified in advance of any changes.
※ The mirror effect and stargazing depend on weather conditions.
※ The itinerary and order of visits may change depending on local conditions.
