Depart La Paz on an overnight sleeper bus, then spend three days crossing the Uyuni Salt Flat and Bolivia's Altiplano by 4WD vehicle. See the Train Cemetery, the giant cacti of Incahuasi Island and the sunset over the salt flat, followed by lagoons visited by flamingos, the Stone Tree in the Siloli Desert and the reddish Laguna Colorada. On the final day, pass the Sol de Mañana geysers, Polques Hot Springs and the Green and White Lagoons before crossing the Bolivia–Chile border and ending in San Pedro de Atacama. Two nights in traditional Altiplano hostels and meals are included.
On day 1, board the overnight sleeper bus to Uyuni at La Paz Bus Terminal at around 9:00 PM. Seats recline up to 165°, with heating, travel blankets, an onboard toilet and seat belts. You'll need to pay the bus terminal fee (BOB 2.50 per person) in cash before departure.

At around 9:00 AM you'll move to the office to get ready, and in line with local regulations the 4WD tour starts at 10:30 AM.
Visit the Train Cemetery with its old locomotives, then see how salt is processed and browse handicrafts in Colchani village at the edge of the salt flat. On the salt flat, visit Playa Blanca and the former salt museum, the Dakar Monument, the Flags of the World and the salt eyes (natural brine holes), and take perspective photos. Lunch is served on the salt flat.
Next, walk among the giant cacti of Incahuasi Island and take in views over the entire salt flat (island entry fee not included). Watch the sunset with a glass of wine and snacks, then head to a hostel in the Atulcha or San Juan area for dinner and your first night.
On day 3, cross the Chiguana Desert and stop at a viewpoint of Ollagüe Volcano on the Bolivia–Chile border. Pass Cañapa, Hedionda and Chiarkota Lagoons, look out for wildlife such as Andean flamingos, and have lunch near the lagoons.
See the Stone Tree in the Siloli Desert, shaped by wind and erosion, then admire the reddish waters and volcanic scenery of Laguna Colorada in the Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve. Have dinner and spend your second night at a hostel in the Huayllajara or Polques area.
On day 4, have breakfast at around 5:00 AM and head to the Sol de Mañana geothermal area at nearly 5,000 m to see fumaroles and mud pools. At Polques Hot Springs you can optionally soak in the natural hot springs (entry fee not included). Cross the Dalí Desert and visit the Green and White Lagoons near Licancabur Volcano.
Then complete border formalities at Hito Cajón on the Bolivia–Chile border with your guide's help, and travel by shared transport to San Pedro de Atacama. The tour ends on arrival at around 1:00 PM Chile time.
