Tours & activities worldwide.
This bus tour departs from Tokyo or Shinjuku and covers Hakone and the Mt. Fuji area in one day. See the floating torii gate of Hakone Shrine at Lake Ashi, a volcanic caldera lake, then ride the Hakone Ropeway to the steaming volcanic valley of Owakudani. Walk among the clear ponds of Oshino Hakkai, fed by Mt. Fuji snowmelt, and enjoy the view of the Chureito Pagoda with Mt. Fuji at Arakurayama Sengen Park. An English- and Chinese-speaking guide accompanies you, and a Hakone Ropeway ride is included for a limited time.
Travel about 2 hours by bus from Tokyo or Shinjuku to Lake Ashi. This caldera lake was formed by a volcanic eruption about 3,000 years ago; the red torii gate of Hakone Shrine stands in the water, and on clear days you can see Mt. Fuji in the distance. After about 15 minutes for photos, you can optionally cruise the lake for about 30 minutes on the Hakone Sightseeing Cruise pirate ship (fare not included, extra cost).
Ride the Hakone Ropeway for about 30 minutes, looking down on sparkling Lake Ashi and Mt. Fuji rising in the distance. At the volcanic valley of Owakudani, spend about 30 minutes watching steam and sulfur gas rise from cracks in the ground, and try kuro-tamago, black eggs boiled in the hot springs.
Spend about 45 minutes in Oshino Hakkai, a village at the foot of Mt. Fuji. Stroll among eight clear spring ponds fed by Mt. Fuji snowmelt and traditional thatched-roof houses, try local snacks such as sweet potato mochi, and admire Mt. Fuji reflected in the clear water.
Spend about 1 hour at Arakurayama Sengen Park. Climb about 400 steps to see Mt. Fuji rising behind the Chureito Pagoda, and also visit Arakura Fuji Sengen Shrine. Afterward, return to Tokyo by bus in about 2 hours.
※ Views of Mt. Fuji and cherry blossom/autumn foliage timing depend on the weather.
※ On public holidays, weekends and in peak season, traffic may delay your return.
