This day bus tour departs from Tokyo Station or Shinjuku and takes you to the top sights of Hakone and the northern side of Mt. Fuji in one day. Ride the Hakone Ropeway up to the volcanic valley of Owakudani to see the rising steam, then stroll around the clear ponds of Oshino Hakkai, fed by Mt. Fuji's snowmelt. Finally, climb up Arakurayama Sengen Park to enjoy the iconic view of the Chureito Pagoda with Mt. Fuji. An English- and Chinese-speaking guide accompanies you, and a Hakone Ropeway ride is included for a limited time.
Depending on your option, depart from Tokyo Station (7:30 AM) or Shinjuku (8:00 AM). Travel about 2 hours in an air-conditioned vehicle, accompanied by a bilingual guide (English and Chinese).
The first stop is Lake Ashi, a caldera lake formed about 3,000 years ago. Take photos of the emerald lake with Hakone Shrine's red torii gate and Mt. Fuji (about 15 minutes). If you wish, you can pay extra to ride the Hakone sightseeing pirate ship and cruise the lake for about 30 minutes.
Take the Hakone Ropeway up to Owakudani, a valley formed by a volcanic eruption about 3,000 years ago (about 30 minutes). See steam and sulfur gas rising between the cliffs and hot springs, and try the black eggs, kuro-tamago, said to extend your life by seven years. On clear days, you can also enjoy views of Mt. Fuji.
Oshino Hakkai, a village at the foot of Mt. Fuji, is famous for its eight clear spring ponds fed by Mt. Fuji's snowmelt. Spend about 45 minutes walking the paths past traditional thatched-roof houses and admiring Mt. Fuji reflected in the ponds. You can also try local snacks such as sweet potato mochi or matcha.
Finally, spend about 1 hour at Arakurayama Sengen Park. Climb 400 steps to see one of Japan's most iconic views: Mt. Fuji rising behind the five-story Chureito Pagoda. Depending on the season, cherry blossoms or autumn leaves add to the scene. After visiting the nearby Arakura Fuji Sengen Shrine, return to Tokyo by bus in about 2 hours.
※ The itinerary may change depending on local conditions.
※ The Hakone sightseeing pirate ship fare is not included.
※ On public holidays, weekends and peak seasons, arrival in Tokyo may be delayed due to traffic.
