The Biei Christmas Tree is a spruce standing alone in a vast white field with no buildings or fences in sight. You will have time to photograph this quiet, iconic scene of snow and tree stretching to the horizon.
Spend about 100 minutes at Chiyoda Farm, a family farm that turns into a snow playground in winter. On an optional snowmobile ride, race across open snowfields with the Tokachi Mountains as a backdrop. Rides cost JPY 15,000 for one rider or JPY 20,000 for two, cash only. Even without a snowmobile ride, you can walk snowy trails, meet animals and enjoy a hot drink at the café.
Admire the blue waters of Shirahige Falls
Shirahige Falls is one of Japan's rare seepage waterfalls, where water flows out through volcanic rock. In winter, the frozen cliffs and the blue river below create a striking contrast of blue and white. You will stay here for about 20 minutes.
See the Blue Pond and Ningle Terrace

Arrive at the Blue Pond around dusk and enjoy its winter illumination for about 30 minutes. Colored lights sweep across the snowy surface and up the trunks of the surrounding larch trees, making the frozen pond glow in shifting shades of blue and purple.
Finally, spend about 60 minutes at Ningle Terrace in Furano, a forest village of craft shops designed by writer So Kuramoto. In the evening, the paths between the small wooden huts light up, and you can browse wind chimes, kaleidoscopes, wooden carvings and candles made by local artisans.
