Takachiho's gorge, railway and cave in one day

Meet your guide in front of the Lawson Fukuoka Oriental Hotel store near Hakata Station and head to Takachiho in the mountains of Kyushu by air-conditioned coach. On this day tour, you discover the nature and legends of Takachiho with your guide, from the gorge and scenic railway to a mythical cave.

See Manai Falls at Takachiho Gorge

After about 3 hours by coach, arrive at Takachiho Gorge and stay for about 1 hour 30 minutes. If you chose the boat option, glide deep into the gorge by boat and look up at Manai Falls dropping from the high cliffs. Each boat holds up to 3 people, so solo travelers share a boat with other guests.

If you don't take the boat, walk along the gorge trail and enjoy the greenery. The path has many stone steps and the round trip takes about 30 minutes.

Ride the retro Amaterasu Railway through the forest

A 30-minute drive takes you to the Takachiho Amaterasu Railway, where you spend about 40 minutes. The retro train runs slowly along the old line in an open-air carriage, so you can feel the mountain breeze while enjoying views of valleys, mountain paths and old bridges.

Railway tickets are not included in the tour price and must be purchased on site. Your guide will help you buy them.

Stack stones and make a wish at Amanoyasukawara

A 20-minute drive brings you to Amanoyasukawara, known as a stage of Japanese mythology, where you stay for about 1 hour. Inside this quiet cave, stone towers are piled up across the ground, and you can follow the old custom of stacking stones to make a wish. After sightseeing, return to Fukuoka in about 3 hours 30 minutes by coach.
