Board a bus in front of Hakata Station and spend a full day on the Itoshima Peninsula, a seaside getaway loved by locals and travelers alike. Visit Itoshima's signature photo spots in turn: Shiraito Falls in the forest (or the 1,300-year-old Raizan Sennyoji Temple in winter), the palm tree swing over the sea, and the Meoto Iwa wedded rocks with their white torii gate at Sakurai Futamigaura. In the afternoon, walk the Totoro Forest trail reminiscent of a Ghibli film, then end the day at the Fukuoka Tower observation deck overlooking Hakata Bay. With a guide on board the bus, you can easily reach Itoshima sights that are hard to get to by public transport.

Depart from Hakata Station
for Itoshima's waterfall and temple
At 9:00 a.m., board the bus in front of Hakata Station and ride about an hour to Shiraito Falls in the mountains of Itoshima. The 24-meter waterfall pours down the rock face like white silk threads, which gives it its name. Enjoy the cool air of the surrounding forest and stroll along the viewing path.
Next, visit Raizan Sennyoji, a temple founded 1,300 years ago. It houses a 4.8-meter wooden Thousand-Armed Kannon statue designated an Important Cultural Property, and its grounds feature a 400-year-old maple tree, a Fukuoka Prefecture natural monument, that turns red in autumn. Entry to the inner hall (adults 500 yen, children free) is paid on site.
Enjoy the Itoshima coast
at the palm tree swing and Meoto Iwa

Drive along the coastal road to the palm tree swing, a wooden swing hung between two tall palm trees. With the blue sea stretching out behind it, it is one of Itoshima's most popular photo spots.
Then spend about two hours at Sakurai Futamigaura. Beyond the white torii gate standing on the shore are Meoto Iwa, two sacred rocks joined by a thick shimenawa rope that symbolize marital harmony and good fortune. During free time, walk the sandy beach, take photos at the angel wings mural, and have lunch at a nearby seaside restaurant.
Walk the green tunnel of the Totoro Forest

In the afternoon, walk the Totoro Forest trail for about 40 minutes, where intertwined trees form a tunnel overhead. Reminiscent of Studio Ghibli's My Neighbor Totoro, this green path lets you enjoy a quiet walk with sunlight filtering through the leaves and the scent of moss.
End the day at
the Fukuoka Tower observation deck

Return to Fukuoka city and visit the 234-meter Fukuoka Tower. Take the elevator to the 123-meter observation deck for 360-degree views of the city, Hakata Bay and Nokonoshima Island, and on clear days even the Genkai Sea. Admission is paid on site, and after your visit the bus takes you back to the starting point.
※ Depending on the season, Shiraito Falls (April–October) or Raizan Sennyoji (November–March) may be visited instead of the other.
※ During cherry blossom season (late March–early April), Fukuoka Castle Ruins and Maizuru Park may be visited instead of Fukuoka Tower.
※ Seasonal scenery such as autumn leaves, greenery and views depends on the weather and is not guaranteed.
※ The itinerary and order of visits may change depending on local conditions.
